1761.0. "NT Services IP ports" by GENIE::MUKHERJEE () Mon Feb 03 1997 05:30

Hi,

Anyone know what are the IP ports needed by NT services. Fo example I came across a document that said
NT print services is using ports 512/tcp and 721-731/tcp.

I need to set up a firewall that will allow for File sharing services. ANyone know which
ports are used?

Thanks,
Arjo

Can anyone verify if the NT based IP ports that apply for file sharing are ports 137, 138, and 139?

Thanks,
Arjo
1761.2137-139 are NETBIOS portsPARZVL::ogodhcp-125-128-185.ogo.dec.com::kennedynuncam non paratusTue Feb 11 1997 14:0619
From the Winnt35\System32\Drivers\Etc\Services file:
137 is nbname
138 is nbdatabram
139 is nbsession

So, you'd need these for file services, but they do
support other MS network services.

This file also says that
512/tcp is exec
and doesn't mention 721-731

IANA maintains well-known port info at
http://www.isi.edu/div7/iana/assignments.html - choose
General Assignments, then port-numbers in that directory.

This doesn't mean that MS isn't using these ports, but
they're not registering them (the port-number file does
have explanations & contacts for the registered ports)
