Customer notices difference in using a PC and accessing a WWW homepage either behind a AltaVista firewall or direct on Internet. Behind the firewall he is getting sometimes a request to download a new browser this message will not appear on the same PC connected direct to Internet .... He is using Unix standard firewall .... What is causing this ? WWW proxy server ? regards, Henk

Are they using different versions of the browser, maybe one has java enabled? This has nothing to do with the firewall software. Sarah | |||||

The homepage is generating the message 'please download a new version of browser' and based on http version 1.1. The PC is using netscape browser 3.01 and no diffence in configuration. Indeed what is the effect of the proxy in the middle should be transparant at protocol level .... (standard CERN proxy) What is causing the error message to generated by http 1.1 ? regard, Henk |
