Hello All, I have a Customer Who is insisting on having Firewall running on the same machine on which WebServer is running. The OS is Windows NT 4.0, with the http Server as Microsoft - Internet Information Server , The Firewall proposed ia AltaVista Firewall on Intel Pentium NT. Can AltaVista Firewall can coexist with the WebServer ( I believe it requires dedicated machine ). If Yes what are the pros & cons of it. Does any one have pointers relating to the performance of the WebSerer & Firewall runing on the Same Machine and what are the threats involoved. Sincere Thanks to All in Advance. Best Regards, Haresh [email protected]

Haresh, Running the web server on the firewall is a really bad idea. Obviously performance is an issue, but so is security. All traffic should be going through the proxies, precisely so that you can control access. Run the web server on a dedicated machine on the red side of the network.
