Hi,
I also multiple occurences of this problem.
At least on Alpha NT 3.51/AV 1.0, Alpha NT 3.51/AV 1.1, Alpha NT 4.0/AV
1.1. No confirmed problems on Intel NT.
One of our business partners claims to be able to reproduce it by
contacting altavista.telia.com (the European AltaVista site). So I
expect a problem while parsing the returned data.
Secondly:
After installing AV 1.1 on NT 3.51 (Alpha) the performance monitor
complains about an incorrect URL. Business partner claimns it can
monitor the processes of the proxy.
AV engineering: please follow up on this one. Disabling caching seems
to solve it, but this problem is giving the product a bad reputation.

1704.3 | | NETRIX::"[email protected]" | Scott Estabrooks | Thu Feb 13 1997 13:48 | 10 |
| We are still investigating this problem, but as yet, have not reproduced it.
Can you give any more details about how they have configured the proxy (in
particular cache settings). What size disk do they have? I',m assuming
the traffic load is heavy and diverse.
On your second problem with the performance monitor, I'm not sure where
a URL would be involved. Do you mean possibly the even monitor?

1704.4 | Now a reproducable HARD error, need fix NOW | UTRUST::KUIJPER | Caught in a World-Wide-Web ! | Fri Feb 21 1997 09:53 | 50 |
| Hi,
We can now reproduce the problem:
Environment:
1) Client: Digital UNIX 4.0; Netscape 3.0; caching in Netscape
turned off (0 bytes for disk and memory caches); forces reloads
2) Server: Digital HiNote Ultra II, Windows NT 4.0 SP1, AV Firewall
NT 1.1 evaluation copy
3) AV www proxy: caching on, purge proxy cache before startup, listen
om port 8080, next proxy ipsrv.uto.dec.com:8080
Steps:
1) Use open http://altavista.telia.com/
2) Select country: The Netherlands
3) Select language: Dutch
4) Go!
5) The Dutch AV search page is being loaded. At nearly the end of
the page, the https process on the firewall goes to 100% CPU
utilisation.
We have tried this 3 times in a row:
Stop proxy; purge cache, start proxy, go to telia homepage, make
selections, Go and see it go eating the CPU.
Switch off caching on the firewall and all goes fine...
I assume it is something in the page it retrieves.
Even simpler: the next URL has immediate result (who said anything
about advertisment services ???):
http://ad.altavista.telia.com:80/ad_image;time=1997.02.21.15.37.37.025&
site=g1-i.altavista.telia.com&spacedesc=/front&country=nl&lang=nl
(Line is concatenated, splitted for ease of reading...)
Maybe it is the hashing algoritm used for mapping the URL to a filename
in the cache that gives the problem (URL too long ???).
The remark in my previous note about an URL was incorrect, I meant a
DLL but will get back on which one later...
Quick action highly appreciated, the perception of the quality of this
product is at stake at both customer and partner relations!
Regards,
Frank & Marco

1704.5 | cache error | NETRIX::"[email protected]" | Ann Wong | Mon Feb 24 1997 12:43 | 11 |
| Hi,
We were able to reproduce the problem described in 1704.4. The pointer to the
ad (http://ad.altavista.telia.com...) in the document seems to be the problem.
The verdor supplying the web proxy is contacted. We will post any progress
here.

| We really need a fix for the current release.
Is it possible to get a fix for the current releases
(maybe an image to replace)
