Questions:

Greetings to the wizard,

We have several small standalone systems(2 mv3100,vax4300,
2 axp3600, axp3400) connected via decnet. We would like
to explore the possibilty of clustering these systems.

What would be the advantages/disadvantages, costs for
hardware/software, Licensing etc..

Thank you for any help you can give us on this question.

                      Jim

Individual license costs are typically not affected by the VMScluster,
or the costs are reduced, depending on the particular product licensing
policies used. Without knowing which products are involved, the Wizard
cannot state the answer with any certainty.

For information on the benefits of a VMScluster, take a look at the
_Guidelines for VMScluster Configurations_ manual -- one can have a
single password and profile management domain, a single set of disks
accessable across all nodes, and the ability to use components such
as the distributed lock manager for control and failover of user
applications, the ability to have a LAT or IP user log into any
available VMScluster machine, and (in your case) as few as two
system disks (one for OpenVMS VAX, one for OpenVMS Alpha), etc.
