Questions:

I am trying to connect pc to vax using Win95,Pathworks and Decnet. When I physically attach the pc via ethernet
network card into the Decnet circuit, (Vax 4100 out to Dechubs and 90TLs), any Vax terminals are logged out and
cannot reconnect, until the pc
connection is removed, then service is restored. What am i doing wrong. Manuals are totally bereft of any
hardware connection details ??

Thanks.

Given your comments, I will assume you are not using "fat" Ethernet
   cabling.

It would appear that there is a cable fault or hardware problem that
   specifically involves this PC.

There are two common schemes used for most 10 MB Ethernet connections:
ThinWire (coaxial cable with BNC connectors), and Twisted Pair (usually
   flat wiring with modular jacks).

With ThinWire, look for a "T" connector and/or terminator that is not
correctly installed. Make sure that each system has a "T", and that
the coax goes "through" the top bar of the "T", and that the vertical
part of the "T" connects to the system. The only places where it is
permissible to connect coax directly to something other than a "T" is
to the 50 ohm terminator, and to the BNC wall jack.

       Local ThinWire:

	    50ohm+-----T-----T------50ohm
                       | |
                      NIC NIC

       Larger ThinWire:

	    50ohm+-----T-----T------jack
                       | |
                      NIC NIC

       50ohm: 50 ohn Ethernet terminator
NIC: Network Interface Card (Ethernet controller)
jack: BNC wall jack for ThinWire (there's normally
	    sufficient termination elsewhere.)

If twisted pair Ethernet is being used, this points to a configuration
problem, or to a hardware problem specific to this PC connection.
