It occurred to me that the combination of Bristol Technolgies' Wind/U product and Digital's FX!32 product might be used to form the basis of an emulation environment suitable for running the latest MS applications. Are you aware of any plans to develop such a product? (I've heard of SoftWindows but it's my understanding that it does only Win3.11.)

The Wizard cannot comment on future plans for emulating the Windows NT environment under OpenVMS. FX!32 and similar technologies translate/emulate the Intel Windows NT environment under the Alpha Windows NT environment -- this is a very different task from translating/emulating a Windows NT package under OpenVMS or another operating system. In your particular situation, a dual-boot system is one immediately available option: one has OpenVMS on one disk, and Windows NT on another. (The AlphaStation 255 requires an extra step or two when switching from the SRM console to the AlphaBIOS console, due to the system's "half-flash" design. "Full-flash" Alpha systems can have both console programs resident, and can switch with a single command.) |
