The queue is defined on a DECNET Phase V/Pathworks V node using the TELNET symbiont. My objective at the moment is to be able to print pages from Netscape on a Windows '95 PC to this network printer. I can do this if the page has no graphics in it. But if the page has graphics in it, I get a "40 Error" on the HPLASER III and the page prints incorrectly (ie: spews out garbage). (The printer must be reset - turned off and on - to get back to an error free state). A "40 error" implies that there is some kind of data transfer error - for example the baud rate or parity does not match the computer. This does not seem to be the case. I am looking for either the correct way to configure the port, TELNET Server or client or confirmation that this will not work with a networked HPLASER III. Any advice or direction gladly appreciated. Regards, M.Green

With a TELNET printer, one can connect from most any system to the directly to the DECserver's TELNET port, via the IP TELNET protocol. (There is no need for an intervening OpenVMS system, nor for the use of LAT or DECnet protocols, in this configuration.) As for assistance in troubleshooting problems printing from Microsoft Windows 95 to a Hewlett Packard Printer, you will need to contact Microsoft and HP -- given that the text transmission appears to be working, this would appear to be either a problem with the Microsoft software or configuration, or with the HP printer configuration. (The DECserver -- which provides a TELNET port for access from the remote clients -- is apparently operating as expected.) OpenVMS does not directly support third-party printers, save for third-party Postscript printers when DCPS-Open is licensed and installed. |
