Questions:

I have an HP C1533A Dat drive tha supports data compression in hardware. The
manual says I can turn the compression on using software. How do I do it in
OpenVMS?

1761.1No Generic SCSI Compression Interface...XDELTA::HOFFMANSteve, OpenVMS EngineeringMon Apr 28 1997 15:4211
   See /MEDIA_FORMAT=COMPACTION and similar command qualifiers for
   BACKUP and MOUNT for the OpenVMS interface to compaction.

   If these commands do not operate with your drive, you will want to
   enable compression by default via jumper or other drive setting, or
   via explicit SCSI commands to the DAT drive via the GKDRIVER generic
   SCSI interface -- OpenVMS knows how to enable compression on specific
   DAT drives, but does not know of a generic method to enable it on all
   drives that support compression.
