:does the may19th bug that affects open vms systems also affect vms 5.4-2 :systems that do library calls I have heard yes and no and that DEC has no :fix for the library calls? There is no "fix", there is an extension of the limit for delta-time conversions to allow the software to exceed a day-one limit -- the 19-May-1997 date is 10,000 days from the UNIX base date of 1-Jan-1970; applications and other code ported from UNIX to OpenVMS are believed most likely to have this programming problem. With the exception of a few subtle and not-so-subtle problems in specified OpenVMS releases, and save for potential problems in some layered products, I would expect 19-May-1997 to be pretty dull. Known problems are identified at http://www.openvms.digital.com. For information on the delta-time limit and on the current and planned availability of ECOs to raise this limit, and -- most importantly -- the testing procedures to detect any site-specific problems (catastrophic or otherwise), please see the delta-time information at http://www.openvms.digital.com. |
