Questions:

Is it possible to give a cluster alias to a standalone,
non-cluster VAX?

We have been migrating from one machine to another over
the years, as the technology gets better, but because the
machines are critical to our business, we cannot just
unplug the old machine and plug in the new one. Each
technology upgrade has involved a lengthy (i.e., not
instantaneous) migration. I'm hoping that I can keep both
the old machine and the new machine up while we migrate
our users and applications, then just point the alias to
the new machine.

On can have a single-node VMScluster with a host name and with a
cluster alias, though I would tend to configure a two-node VMScluster
(with a quorum disk or with a quorum node) as it would likely make
   the migration easier.
