Questions:
I have several VAX systems ranging from MicroVAX-II up to
VAX 6000-340 and I have a questions about VMS versions.
All my systems have licenses and all have VAX/VMS 5.5-2HW
loaded with DECWindows and I have the original tapes. I
also have a tape that is labeled VMS v5.5-2 and appears
to be an update tape of some kind.
My questions is, which is the latest of the two versions,
the v5.5-2HW or the v5.5-2? Should I load the v5.5-2
updates on my system?
I would appreciate any help on this as I have gotten all
kinds of mixed answers that have done nothing but confuse
the issue.

OpenVMS VAX V5.5-2HW predates V5.5-2, which itself predates the final
V5.5-2H4 OpenVMS VAX release. The current OpenVMS VAX release is V7.1.
I would upgrade to the most recent (licensed) version.
See the OpenVMS Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ) for various OpenVMS
upgrade paths available.
