1709.1 | Occasional Restoration Can Be Useful | XDELTA::HOFFMAN | Steve, OpenVMS Engineering | Wed Apr 09 1997 10:49 | 19 |
If your question intends to ask if you should restore the BACKUP/IMAGE saveset from the saveset to the disk, then yes, this is occasionally (once every year or two, depending on the local configuration and criteria) useful, as it tends to defragment the disk file structure. The frequency where this operation would be performed is dependent on the level of disk fragmentation, on the local application proclivity to fragment the disk, and on local application performance and system up-time constraints. Additional information is covered in the OpenVMS documentation set, in the system and performance management manuals. Also of interest to you will be the OpenVMS Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ) comp.os.vms newsgroup monthly posting; the FAQ is available in the newsgroup, and at the DIGITAL web site: ftp://ftp.digital.com/pub/Digital/dec-faq/vms. |
