We are using GDS as CAD software. The Plotter is connected to a novell network. The way we print from our PCs is to generate a plot file and then transfer it to the network, then copy that file from a PC connected to the plotter to the parallel port. But we have two concerns if we want to plot from the Alphastation: 1. Would the HPGL2 driver included in VMS be sufficient to produce good color output to that plotter(knowing that this plotter supports HP-GL2, HP-RTL and ENCAD-RTL), and is there a raster driver in VMS?(HP-RTL) And if yes what are the recommended settings for obtaining best output. 2. The alphastation is connected to the rest of the network (Novell Netware 3.x/4.1) using Pathworks. How should configure the driver to produce plotter output files that can be directly copied to the plotter (i.e. native plot file, not a spool file)?

There are various ways one can connect a plotter, and various protocols one can use to "serve" access to the plotter. Without specific information on the plotter, the plotter's capabilies, and on the application software, it is difficult to make any suggestions. OpenVMS does not directly contain an HPGL driver -- there may be one or more layered products or translators involved here, however. For assistance in configuring this, contact your local DIGITAL office, and contact the "Encad novajet pro plotter" vendor for suggestions. |
