:where and how do i make a new system boot disk????
:system is a vax 11-785.

Please see the OpenVMS Installation and Upgrade documentation for
information on how to install OpenVMS on a clean disk -- the procedure
is heavily documented, and information specific to the steps needed on
systems such as the VAX-11/785 series is included in the document.

You must first update the console floppy to support the target disk
for the new system disk -- this is easiest from a running OpenVMS VAX
system, but can be performed via explicit console commands. (This
assumes the console floppy has not already been updated to include
a bootstrap script for the specified target disk.)

To create the new system disk, you start with the OpenVMS distribution
media, which includes a standalone BACKUP kit, and you must perform a
standalone backup restoration of the VMS071.B (for the OpenVMS VAX V7.1
release) onto the target disk. You then bootstrap the target disk, and
complete the OpenVMS software installation process.

I am omitting a large number of steps here -- specific commands are
omitted, as they depend on the version, the target disk, and on the
local configuration. (All this is covered in the OpenVMS Installation
   and Upgrade documentation.)
