Subject: System Beep on Alphastation 200

I am running OpenVMS 6.2 with DECWindows Motif 1.2-4 and
CDE. I have seen the FAQ's about loading Multimedia
Services to cure the sound problem.

I have done that but I still have the same problem with
the beep. The new DECsound works using the audio jacks on
the back but not with the built-in speaker. I can't
control the volume of the beep, the volume control changes
the pitch however.

Could there be a jumper or something else on the board or
speaker that I need to change?

The "keyboard beep" will not use the sound board at present - it will use the
speaker in the system box only. The volume is not adjustable, but as you
have learned, you can change the frequency and duration of the tone with the
DECwindows controls.
