Questions:
I work with a VAX 4300 running VMS 6.1 with 96MB of
physical memory and approx. 7Gig of free disk space.
What is involved in acquiring a C compiler to run on the
VAX?
(1) How much(some kind of rough price range)?
(2) Brief description of installation or of
problems to look for during installation?
(3) I am not much of a VMS guru so would this
require installation from a Digital field
tech or is installation straight forward
with docs and intstructions?
Thanks!

Please contact 1-800-DIGITAL, and request pricing information for a DEC C license and -- if you do not already have a consolidated software distribution CD-ROM -- a copy of the distribution kit on CD-ROM or the appropriate-format magnetic tape. Consider acquiring the DEC C documentation set in hardcopy or -- if you have access to a DECwindows display or X Terminal -- acquiring the documentation CD-ROMs and using Bookreader. Installation of DEC C is quite simple, requiring usage of VMSINSTAL, editing the site-specific system startup file SYSTARTUP_VMS to add the line `$ @SYS$STARTUP:DECC$STARTUP', and registry of a product authorization key via the VMSLICENSE procedure or other LMF commands. Extensive documentation is available with the compiler, including detailed step-by-step product installation instructions. Nearly all OpenVMS products use the PCSI (newer) or VMSINSTAL (older) tool for the installation, and the pre- and post-installation steps are very similar among the vast majority of layered products. | |||||
