Questions:

I'm mad! I love VMS but DEC doesn't offer VMS on the low
end alpha PC's. They make you run NT and sometimes Unix.

For example, the Personal Workstations only come with NT.

    http://www.workstation.digital.com/announce/dpw/dpwa_an.html
And the entry-level AlphaStation 255/300 workstation comes with UNIX.

I see no technical reason for this.

I would love a home PC that could boot VMS but who can afford one?
What would have to be done to allow VMS to boot on an alpha PC?
Is it possible to build your own Alpha PC that would boot VMS for
a reasonable cost using something like the Alpha PCI.

At the last DECUS, there was also mention of a hobbyist license
for openVMS - any news about this?

If not, I guess I'll have to boot Linux and join the unix crowd.

[I am aware of no announced support for these systems.]

:I see no technical reason for this.

No technical reason? Would you like to become a member of OpenVMS
engineering, and discover the level of effort required to get OpenVMS
bootstrapped and running and tested on a new platform?
