Questions:
I have two questions;
1. I have modem connected to a DECserver 200/MC and
using UCX V4.0, I dial-out to ISP (Linux) and startslip
on that machine, I attempt to create a SLIP interface
in UCX but either
a. the modem disconnects when I exit SET HOST/DTE
b. I can't create the SL interface because the LTA
device is owned by another user (ofcourse..)
My idea (but I haven't tried it out yet) is to alloc
the LTA device (connect to the DECserver port the modem is
on..) create the SLIP interface in UCX (which won't
start until it can allocate and assign to the LTA device
do the necessary set host/dte stuff and startslip on the
linux machine, then exit out of SET HOST/DTE and dealloc
the LTA device, this should allow UCX to take over the
LTAxxx device??? Should this work, is there a simpler
way, and when can we have a scripting tool associated
with UCX Slip device???
2. Now my second related question. I only have VAXen
and have read the functional description for PPP
(I use to work to CSC in United Kingdom and Australia)
and one of the first Goals is that the code will be
made available since it is taken from CMU...
Since V7.1 only supports PPP on AXP, will the
code be available for VAX people to compile and get
working on their machines (If they know how) or will
the the ASYNC driver be only avail on AXP and so
never be able to have PPP (with scripting) on VAX..
Keep up the fantastic work... I've read group 0 -- group 8
questions and answers and having worked in Digital CSC most
of my working life, I send my empathy/sympathy!!!!
BTW if email address [email protected] doesn't work
please try [email protected] (it went thru a name
change just recently..)
Thanx
Scott, Esq.
