We have quite a few other applications and quite simply the questions I have are as follows:- 1)In general will OpenVMS 7.0 executables be able to work on VMS 6.2 systems (as I understand that there are significant changes to libraries in 7.0) 2)I believe DEC plan to merge the 6.2 and 7.n streams in the future. Are there any timescales available for this happening AND WHAT ARE THE PLANS FOR THE 6.n stream of releases (I've heard rumor that a VMS 6.3 is planned - is this correct ?) Regards .... Alan Pritchard

Running images created on later versions on earlier versions is not supported. It is sometimes possible to link images created on later versions against RTLs from earlier versions, and the resulting images often work. OpenVMS Alpha V6.2 and V6.2-1Hx features and support are contained in OpenVMS Alpha V7.1 -- OpenVMS Alpha V7.0 predates OpenVMS Alpha V6.2-1Hx series, and does not contain any support that was added in the V6.2-1Hx series. There were no hardware releases for OpenVMS VAX, and OpenVMS V7.0 contains all of prior OpenVMS VAX releases. (There are far fewer changes in the OpenVMS VAX V7.0 kernel than were made in the OpenVMS Alpha V7.0 kernel.) I am not aware of any plans for an OpenVMS V6.3 release, nor am I aware of any assembled release engineering nor release management team for any such release. Work is, however, proceeding for an upcoming OpenVMS release after OpenVMS V7.1. |
