Questions:
My company (Siemens) has developed a railway control
system which runs on several Alpha-Servers and Alpha-
Workstations. This system will be installed in a large
control centre later this year, where a customer
requirement is that each workstation should control six
screens.
Is there a current Alpha-Workstation available which can
support this requirement? If not, what is the maximum
number of screens that an Alpha-Workstation can drive and
what are the requirements with respect to the OpenVMS
version?
I apologise for the seemingly trivial nature of this
question, but I have not been able to get a straight
answer from the local DEC office.
Thanks in advance,
Neville Rowden

1508.1 | Custom Configuration | XDELTA::HOFFMAN | Steve, OpenVMS Engineering | Mon Feb 10 1997 17:44 | 15 |

This response assumes that X Windows network terminal displays are
not under consideration here.
I am aware of no standard system that supports more than three
directly-connected graphics controllers -- please contact your
Digital representative or reseller, and request assistance in
creating a custom system configuration.
Most (all?) currently-available workstations lack a sufficient
number of PCI slots for this configuration; any potential
configuration may/will thus be based on an AlphaServer 4000 or
4100 class system, or similar. This series requires V6.2-1H3,
or V7.1 or later. (If this particular configuration request can
be supported, of course.)
