:Will OpenVMS V5.3 support VAX 6450s ?

The VAX 6000-400 series requires V5.4.

:Upgrading from VAX VMS 5.3 to V5.5-2H4 is it a straight
:upgrade or do I have to load V5.4 and all associated
:patches and then to V5.5-2H4.

OpenVMS VAX V7.1 is the current OpenVMS release.

The following text is going into the OpenVMS Frequently Asked

VMScluster rolling upgrades for both OpenVMS VAX and OpenVMS Alpha
may/will have different, or additional upgrade requirements, and
have requirements around which versions of OpenVMS can coexist
in a VMScluster. See the _OpenVMS <platform> Version <Version>
Upgrade and Installation Manual_, and the OpenVMS Software Product
   Descriptions (http://www.openvms.digital.com/openvms/spd/list.html)
for further details on the upgrade, and for support information.
And OpenVMS VAX users should also see the upgrade and installation
supplement manual(s) for their particular VAX platform(s).

Some of the above-mentioned pathes include what are considered to
be "upgrades", and some are considered to be "updates". Check the
appropriate upgrade and installation manual(s), and skim through the
new features manual, and the release notes, for each release involved.
