When I was using NETNOTES in WINDOWS-95, I experienced a severe slowdown whenever I opened a conference (such as IBMPC-95) that had a very large seen map. If I cleared the seen map (e.g., create a new entry for the same notesfile), it would start up fast. When a did a SET SEEN, it would take on the order of 2-4 minutes before the operation completed. I've recently moved to NT Workstation 4.0, and the problem went away completely, even though I copied the same notebook from WIN95!

Im trying to learn to use net notes, and I see exactly the same problem on Win 95. It takes many minutes to open any of the conferences I need. This is totally unuseable to me. Is there a fix for this? | |||||

I have NetNotes installed on my 120MHz W95 laptop, and access to the entries [through a router, even] was adequate when using a local [IE, stored on laptop] NOTEBOOK.NOT file. The thing that slowed it down was moving the .NOT file to an NT file server and then trying to access the same entries over a 28.8K RAS connection. Where do you keep your .NOT file, and what's the size of the file right now? |
