| You are right. We have a ton of updated information that will go on
the web to coincide with the Spiralog V1.2 release (MAR 97).
The new information will cover all projects that fall under the OpenVMS
File System Technology (OFST) umbrella - not just Spiralog. By that I
am referring to the new file system deliveries we have planned for
Files-11 customers as well.
Here is a sample:

Investment Continues on the Spiralog File System for OpenVMS Alpha
**********************************************************************
Announcing Spiralog Version 1.2, the latest version of the Spiralog File
System, built to run on OpenVMS Alpha Version 7.1. Spiralog Version 1.2
will be available MAR 97. Full data backward compatibility is provided
between Spiralog Version 1.2 and earlier versions. No backup, restore nor
disk initialization is required. Upcoming Spiralog maintenance releases
are scheduled to coincide with future releases of OpenVMS.
Spiralog Version 2.0 is the next major release of the Spiralog File System.
Delivery is anticipated late in calendar year 1998. In addition to the
scalability attributes (ie: its ability to cope with very large files and
large numbers of files), online backup, and improved write performance
(via write-behind caching) delivered in Spiralog Version 1.0, Spiralog
Version 2.0 users will be pleased to find:
- Online volume management; to dynamically grow the
storage topography visible to the file system.
- Clones that are shutdown-persistent, user-visible and
readable; for increased storage management flexibility.
- Reduced and predictable resource consumption; memory and
CPU requirements will be on par with those of Files-11 today.
- Enabled disk quotas.

Leveraging What We've Learned to Bring the Best to Both Worlds
******************************************************************
From the outset, customers have been enthusiastic about Spiralog's online
backup features and scalability attributes. They also value the
investment protection offered by Spiralog's coexistence with their
existing file system (Files-11 applications run unchanged on Spiralog).
However not all environments can easily adapt to a major on-disk-structure
change.
As a result, OpenVMS has modified the file system product rollout to
more rapidly bring many of the benefits valued by Spiralog customers,
specifically online backup and write performance -- to the broader
Files-11 customer base.
Coming in calendar year 1997, Files-11 customers will be provided:
- A safe, reliable and easily managed means to allow
them to perform online backups with "zero-downtime".
- A new write-behind cache that provides excellent RMS
indexed file and RU Journaling application performance,
functions better in clustered Alpha environments, and
scales more effectively than VIOC.
In addition, from Files-11 we will provide the ability to use your
OpenVMS server as the centralized, safe, reliable and ever-available
environment for your NT data! Windows NT clients can take advantage of
physically centralized storage and the high availability provided by
OpenVMS Clusters. Plus, online backup will be extended to Windows NT
clients via served volumes on OpenVMS.5
