179.0. "Error Accessing Remote Notebook (again!)" by BACHUS::CLEVELAND (L'Escargot) Wed Feb 12 1997 10:12

Hi, I'm having a problem accessing my notebook from Teamlinks Conferencing.

I'm getting the usual:
 "Error accessing Remote Notebook. Continuing with local Notebook"

On this occasion I do not believe the problem to be any of the resons already
mentioned in here. I think it is a problem specifically with my notebook.

The reason I say this is because I can copy anybody elses notebook into my
directory on the VAX or create a new one and it works perfectly. Copy my own
back and it fails again.

I have tried this with my notebook on different servers and accessing from
different PCs but always with the above results.

I have converted the file using an FDL but cannot make any progress.

One other thing to mention is that as well as getting the above error message,
if I look in Options/Error Report it says:
 "-NOTES-E-NOTMEMBER, you are not a member of this conference".

This is confusing because I haven't tried to open a conference at this point!

If I try to copy my remote notebook to local I get no error messages on screen
but looking in Error Report gives me the same message.

I can provide access to my notebook if required.

Any ideas?

Thanks,

Brian

Hi Brian,

This is probably due to the protection of your notebook.
The Conferencing release notes state that:

>>>B) You must allow network access to the Notebook File by
>>> removing the protection from the file and the directory, or
>>> by specifying an ACL (Access Control List) for the file and
>>>        directory.

>>> For example, the ACL Command (issued on the OpenVMS system):

>>>    SET FILE/ACL=(ID=NOTES$SERVER,ACCESS=READ+WRITE) NOTES$NOTEBOOK.NOTE
>>>    SET FILE/ACL=(ID=NOTES$SERVER,ACCESS=READ) directory_name

>>> where "directory_name" is the directory containing NOTES$NOTEBOOK.NOTE.

/Elaine

    Elaine,

    Nope, already gone through that lot. When I have copied other users
    notebooks into my directory and given the same protection as mine, they
    work, mine doesn't. I've tried both using ACLs and just setting it so
    that there is full access to everyone.

    You're more than welcome to copy my notebook if you want to try it out.

    Anything else I can look at?

Many thanks to Elaine who pointed out that my notebook was set to be
members only!!

I'm not sure whats more stupid, not spotting it or not even knowing that
you can set a notebook to be members only, oops!

I'm now happily writing this reply from Teamlinks Conferencing.

Thanks Elaine.
