459.0. "List mode initially doesn't place you on top of the list" by ATZIS3::atzpc2.aui.dec.com::HUSCHKA_A (SIB-OFFICE) Sun Feb 02 1997 17:59

Hi,

You have a compound object in list mode and defined an descending sort
on "created at". If there are a lot of objects inside this compound object
opening this compound object results in showing you the "oldest" objects
instead of the "newest" ones. So you need to manually go to the top of the list.

We got a lot of claims about this because most users use this settings on their
mailinbox to see the new mails at a glance.

Is there a way to always get on top of the list ?

Hi,

Customer wants an answer to this question.
Can you tell me if this behaviour is made by design ???

Andreas,

Can't completely reproduce it that way.
If I sort on Date Descending and the list does not fir on one screen, it scrolls
down so far that the selected object is visible on the last row. So if I select the
bottom row (the oldest) close and re-open, indeed the list is sorted descending
and indeed the oldest one is still selected and on the bottom of my screen.
If I select the newest object and close the compound and re open, the newest object
is visible in the top of the screen. Do they have the same behavior?
I'm running 308 32 December.

Jos
459.3Seems to be a Mailinbox problemATZIS3::atzpc2.aui.dec.com::HUSCHKA_ASIB-OFFICEThu Mar 27 1997 10:5913
Jos,

I found out that this behaviour occurs only for the Mailinbox.
(Have a lot of mails -> Descending sort on CreatedAt -> First open after login
don't place you on top of list).

Can you verfy this ?

Yep. verified the same behavior. The oldest envelope is always 'focused' no matter
if you sort ascending or descending. A user's intention for sorting descending
of course is to see the newest mail on top of the list and it should have focus.

Can you IPMT this?

Kind regards,
Jos
