 UNIX V3.2G LINKWORKS V3.0.7

The customer wants to know if they can use more than 8 character filenames
with Wordperfect 7 under LinkWorks. They get many winfile error messages if
they use 8, 7 and below then no problems. Is this a restriction with
 WordPerfect??

 Cheers,
 Richard Simpson.

Here are more details on this problem:

He is using LinkWorks Client V3.08, 32bit and LinkWorks Server V3.07

He is using Windows NT 3.51 and has problems. When they use WorkGroup for
Windows then they get no problems.

To see the problem:

They create a text object with 8 or more characters. Then he double clicks to
open the text object and the specified application ie WordPerfect 7.0. It is
then that he receives the winfile error messages. It does not enter the
application but returns him to the LinkWorks desk.

If he then creates a text object with 7 or less characters and double clicks to
open the application, it works fine. However after some changes if he then saves
the file he gets the winfile error messages and it returns him to the save as
screen. He can either save it as a 7 character name or carry on editing.

Example of the 8 charcter name or more is:

 Testing2
 TextText20

Hope someone can help,
Regards,

The customer seams to change his problem slightly each time I phone him. He says
that the only error they are currently getting is:

"the directory "f:\" cannot be created"

Also it is only greater than 8 characters that cause the problem. Could it be
that the new version of the 32 bit client kit is able to deal with long
filenames any better? and that he is using an older version?

Cheers,
Richard.

Hello,

Well yet the problem takes another turn....

He has only tested the following products:

 MS project okay
 LOTUS okay
 WordPerfect 7.0 NOT okay

So it may be a wordperfect problem! Running wordperfect out of linkworks and
it works fine, saving long filenames on F:

F: is a Network Drive and is point to an NTFS file system.

Hope this helps,
Regards,
Richard.
