| LinkWorks checks if the document is "dirty" (modified) and prompts you
to save. I believe that Excel keeps the access date, so the document is
always "dirty".
The difference with 2.1 is that LinkWorks opens the file in OLE mode.
This allows you to make links between LinkWorks objects. When you mail
them, the links are retained.
Workarounds are to open the document "read only" by default (i.e.
double click calls ReadObject instead of EditObject) or switch off OLE
(override CallObjectDocument, see other notes).

2227.3 | No ILockBytes = No links | UTROP1::PETERS_M | | Wed May 14 1997 18:36 | 4 |
| Your customer has to know that links do not work anymore. A link from
Word to Excel is broken when the document is accessed by another user.

2227.4 | Also between Excel spreadsheets? | OSL09::BJARNE | endless loop (n). See LOOP, ENDLESS. | Thu May 15 1997 12:13 | 14 |
| Martin,
this does also imply that links between Excel spreadsheets doesn't work?
Or, will it work for
Excel - Excel links
but not for
Word - Excel
My guess: If you turn off the ILockBytes mechansim, links won't work
at all.

| Thats right. Without ILockBytes, LinkWorks does not sit in between.
You you get a link to a local file, which is the temporary file
created by LinkWorks. Other users do not have access to this file
of course.
