The customer is using lnxbm every night to backup his LNX server and increasingly gets an ORA-04031 error at the subsequent startcell. This apparently means that the SGA is full. He tripled the SGA to what is advised for big systems though he has a small one and errors are coming back after some time. He now flushes the SGA manually but would like to know whether there is a risk in doing this, or how to prevent the problem from occurring. Oracle also offers dbms_shared_pool utilities: can something be done with these? Apparently the backup terminates correctly but the customer did not verify this in backup.log (he will call back if he finds something there). His software is LNX 3.07 with Oracle 7.2.3 and AIX 4.1.5. Thanks in advance for any help. Gerard [Posted by WWW Notes gateway]

Its better to shutdown and start Oracle before doing the backup. This will cleanup the SGA. Martin |
