2138.0. "Urgent: install V3.0.7 on Win-NT3.51 fails" by BACHUS::dbc624.bro.dec.com::POPPE () Fri Feb 21 1997 16:54

Hi,

I need to upgrade a LinkWorks cluster of 5 production servers from
V3.0.7. to V3.0.8 on Windows-NT 3.51.
To prepare this, I wanted to install a single cell server to run
a test upgrade, but I don't get LNX3.0.7 installed.
I run into the same problems as in note 1050.
-swc.log contains 'unable to connect to host "dbc611" - error 10061
	ECONNREFUSED
-lnxinst.log and instmgmt.log report successfull installation.
-There is no ER-xx-yy errorlog.
-From the event viewer I get the following:
IPC Manager process for Internet started
Configuration Manager process for Internet started
	Server "E:\LNX\LNX307\SRV\NTASQL\servers\cmd.exe" terminated with
		error
	Unable to shutdown TDF
	Unable to kill TDF
	Initialization aborted: error=2
Service LinkWorks: cannot start management (START)
		System error code:	1062
		Current state: 1
		Win32 Exit code:	2
		Service Exit code:	0
		Check point number:	0(2)
		Wait hint: 0

Reinstalled more than 10 times, deleting LinkWorks accounts, databases,
	install directory, SQL server, ...

The hostname matches Managers file entry. I checked notes 839, 1050, 1205,
	1273, 1309 ... still no solution.
Some patches are mentioned ... Are they still available on-line ?
Is the installation guide for 3.0.7 available on-line ? I used the 3.0.8
installation guide. I installed the server from the october 1995 CD.

We also tried to install 3.0.7 on a WIN-NT 4.0 with SQL6.5, same problem.
Version 3.0.8 on Win-NT 4.0 with SQL6.5 installs ok.

Can you help me out with this ?

Thanks and regards,
Marc

Marc,

After running setup, did you open Control Panel->Services->LinkWorks
and clicked 'OK' and reboot?
That has to be done before running 'instmgmt'

2138.2Tried again, still the sameBACHUS::dbc624.bro.dec.com::POPPEMon Feb 24 1997 12:3833
Jos,

Yes I did that (more then 10 times), it comes with a message telling
that logon as a service is granted.

What about the server name/hostname in uppercase/lowercase ?
In Network settings I get Computername = DBC611 (upper),
in Configure, DNS, I get hostname = dbc611 (lower),
in isql, select @@servername, I get DBC611 (upper),
in the Managers file I have dbc611 (lower),
and in DOS box, 'hostname' gives me dbc611 (lower).
In the swc.log I fine 'dbc611 ...ECONNREFUSED' (lower)
Is this normal ? I find it very inconsistent !

I can log on to the domain as omdba or omuser -> security looks ok.

After installing the software set, I have a message 'waiting for
primary domain controller to commit'. This takes about 30 minutes.
Is that normal ?

When I try from a DOS box to stop lnx or restart mgt components,
it gives me messages like ERROR0002: The system cannot find the file
specified. I pointed out it is the cltdf.cfg file.
Should this file already be there ? I suppose it only comes when instcell
is done.

The network services file look ok to me.

What now ?

Marc

This is normal. The important thing is that running 'hostname' in a DOS box returns
the same as specified in the Managers file.

It takes a while that is true, but 30 minutes is not normal. Are you installing
on a PDC, BDC or on a Server? 307 could not be installed on the latter..

Make sure you page file is at lease 4 * the amount of physical RAM.

2138.5I will try on a BDCBACHUS::POPPETue Feb 25 1997 15:188
Hi,

I installed it on a NTFS partition of a server, not a PDC or BDC.
We decided to set op a new BDC from scratch instead of converting the other
server into BDC. Windowe-NT is finally up now, I'll keep you informed.

Thanks,
Marc
2138.6LinkWorks server running - ThanksBACHUS::POPPEWed Feb 26 1997 12:317
Hi Jos and Lieuwe,

After getting another CD I got SQLserver6.0 up and running - thanks for the tip.
And now LinkWorks server 3.0.7 is up and running.- on a BDC.

Marc
