======================================================
Hi,
Today, I have tested the new LNX 3.0.8pC (w32deu) patch
on NT4.0 and NT3.51 with the following results:

Test configuration for testserie 1:
===================================
Operating System: NT4.0 german, (no service pack installed)
MS-Office: Office95 Professional, german (not the A-Version)
Viewer: Microsoft Schnellansicht 4.0 (standard QuickView
	within NT4.0)
LNX: 3.0.8pC (Feb. release), Viewer Delay:5000, Viewer horizontal
     (german)
NT-Login: Administrator and regular User
LNX-Login: LNX-User (not omdba)

Test 1:
Clicking the first object (Winword), the Viewer is working.
Clicking the 2., 3.,4.,... object, the hourglass comes for
a few seconds and ..... nothing happends anymore.

Remark: I see in release notes, LNX3.0.8p is not working with
the standard QuickView from Microsoft. But what is the
problem (I need arguments to explain it to my customers).

Test 2:
Changes: Standard QV from Microsoft disabled.
	 QuickViewPlus 3.0.3 (german) installed.

General: Viewer is working (tested with winword, excel, notes).
I remark, LNX starts for each viewing object a new QVP
process (new application windows). During a day, user
will have a lot of opened QVP-Sessions! He must close
it manually! That means, our customer will never use and
enable the Viewer option!!! On NT3.51, there is only 1
(sometimes two) opened QVP-Sessions for the same test.
Why it doen't work on NT4.0??

Disabling Viewer Option:
With this option, you can viewing object by pressing
<CTRL>+<V> keys. The user have to close the viewer window
	manually.

Test configuration for testserie 2:
===================================
Operating System: NT3.51 german, (service pack 4 installed)
MS-Office: Office95 Professional, german (not the A-Version)
Viewer: QuickViewPlus 3.0.3
LNX: 3.0.8pC (Feb. release), Viewer Delay:5000, Viewer horizontal
     (german)
NT-Login: Administrator and regular User
LNX-Login: LNX-User (not omdba)

Test 1 (NT-Login: regular User):
Clicking the first object, QVP is working. If you like to view
a second object, the following error message will be displayed:

1.Message: Wait for g_hViewRequestSemaphore timed out

2.Message: Verarbeitung der Anzeige-Anforderung konnte nicht
ausgefhrt werden. Melden Sie diesen Fehler dem
		   Inso-Kundendienst.

Outside LNX, QVP is working without errors.

Test 2:
Changes: NT-Login as Administrator
Clicking the first object, QVP is working. If you like to view
a 2., 3.,... object, QVP shows the contents within the already
opend QVP-Application Window ---> that is what the customer like
to have. But sometimes, the old QVP-Application window keeps open
and the contents from the new viewing object will be displayed in
a new QVP-Application window.

Request for comments (to explain it to our customers):
A) Why we can not use the standard QV from Win95 and NT4.0?
B) Why LNX3.0.8pC still doesn't work with QVP 3.0.3 on NT3.51 properly?
C) How we can get (configure) to have just one active QVP-Application
window to viewing all selected objects during a LNX-Session?
D) What is the next step to do to fix the viewer problem?

Thank you for your comments.

Best regards,

Paul

Paul,

1/ WIN 95
The IPMT was written on WIN 95. We verified it on WIN95!
I suppose that you have verified it on WIN95 too and that it works.
Verified with Standard Quick View and QVP 4.0.

2/ NT4.0
Quick View from Microsoft NT 4.0 does not work due to a not working
interface to the viewer. Reported to Microsoft, no answer yet.

We verified Quick View Plus 4.0 on NT 4.0/Win95 and did not find
any problem.
What do you mean with "new application window", he must close
manually etc.. How do you see that?

3/ NT3.51
We will verify NT3.51 next week. We keep you informed.

Please contact Minne Hielkema if you still have problems.

Regards,

Luc Tack

2137.2More detailsGENIE::16.44.96.194::kusterpPaul Kuster, DEC BernMon Feb 24 1997 09:5826
Hi Tack,

Thank you for responsing. Below, some more details.

1. We will test the new kit on W95 this week. So, I will inform
you afterwards.

2. Please, let me know, if you get an answer from Microsoft.

I ment with "..new application window", that on NT4.0 QVP
starts for each clicked (and viewing) object QVP. When users
don't close QVP manually, there will be a lot of opened QVP
windows during a day. On NT3.51 QVP will be started just once
(sometimes twice) for all viewing objects. On my point of view,
that is not a potential problem (I know, outside LNX, QVP also
starts for each viewing document with his own application window,
but this behaviour is not the same as before with OutsideIn).

How many QVP are running, you can check taskmanager or
check the taskbar.

Best regards,

Paul

2137.3QVP and LNX interactionKERNEL::uvodhcp14.uvo.dec.com::crooksA Philly blunt that is!Thu Mar 20 1997 17:1223
Hi,

I wondered if any progress had been made with QVP
on Windows NT 4.0 and LNX v3.0.8. I have a customer
here in the UK who is seeing the same basic problems.
In particular they see the scenario where QuickView has
been used to open many different objects. For x number
of views it will re-use the same window for each view,
but then it will suddenly fire a second Quickview window
instead of re-using the original. Any ideas why this is?

Although my question is also whether this a LNX problem
at all, as opposed to a QVP problem?

Another query they have is whether there are any settings
available in the Registry that affect LNX interaction with
QVP.

Any suggestions?

cheers

Hello,

See the kit located at
DISK$LNX:[KITS.WIN308P.32BIT.INTEL]

It should be solved in that kit. Please try.
