2105.0. "External mail and teletex subjects" by OSL09::16.191.144.154::OSL01::EVEN (Lars Even Christiansen) Thu Jan 30 1997 18:19
Hi,
It looks as if LinkWorks V3.0.8 on OpenVMS (external mail) fails
to convert teletex characters in the subject field of an incoming
external X.400 mail message.
I don't know if this is/was a problem with other versions or platforms.
X.400 subject fields are per definition Teletex (T.61) encoded.
The necessary conversions between the apropriate character sets
are a responsiblity of the user agents. For agents using the latin 1
character set or DEC MCS (such as LinkWorks external mail), a lack of
conversion is a problem when there are certain 8-bit characters
- especially the accented ones.
It seems natural that also LinkWorks' External Mail does this, but for
my customer it appears that it doesn't.
Is this something that is configurable, or is it maybe a non-supported
feature?
Regards,
Lars Even
