2093.0. "LinkWorks WebConnector available for IFT" by tacklr.apd.dec.com::TACK_L () Sun Jan 26 1997 17:58

Hello,

We have the LinkWorks WebWorker (previously called WebConnector) in
verification at the moment and we are looking for some
"Internal Field" tests.

The WebConnector is "English" only. Thus no localisation in the first release.

Although we did not take actions to exclude Internationalisation we are
only able to verify an English environment.
To speed up actions to implement Internationalisation we need some feedback
about the behaviar of the product in other languages.

Thus, we are specialy interested in "language" differences eg.
two-byte char sets, Hebrew, Latin-2 etc..
Other feedback is welcome too.

A version based on LNX 3.0.8 is running on Digital UNIX and
will be available within 1 week.
A version based on LNX 3.0.8 and running on NT 4.0
will come 1 or 2 weeks later.

Note: FCS based on 3.0.8 is planned end of March.

Please reply to this note if you are interested.

Minne Hielkema will be the contact person.

Thanks in advance,

Luc Tack

Hi Luc

I'm missing the WEBconnector in the "LNXWEB" Directory.
Are there some problems with IFT Kit?

2093.9WebWorkerUTROP1::dankom1.uto.dec.com::Danko_MWed Mar 05 1997 15:089
I found that Windows machines had problems getting the tar file due to its longer name. A copy has
been created (exactly equal) with an 8.3 character name.

As far as Java is concerned, the WebWorker functionality on the client side is mostly triggered by
Javascript. It should be possible to extend the functionality even further using Javascript or
even Java.
ActiveX is whole different class, as it is a Microsoft invention. To my knowledge, it is not used
but may be possible to use, depending on the client (Internet Explorer versus Navigator) and the
server. I doubt if the Netscape server uses it.
