| Ray,
Was reading somethin in the paper this morning regarding
Sinden's comments after the game yesterday. Pretty much said
that Kasper isn't a given for next year and Sinden will make a
decision in 7-10 days. Sounds like something is bruin.
Kasper's quotes in the paper also indicated he isn't to optomistic
for a return next year either.
I say he's GONE.
Now the real thing is what puppet replaces him. 8-)

Harry said that Kasper is a good coach in one sentence. Then in
another sentence he said if you finish last place in the league,
changes must happen.
I look for Kasper to become director of scouting with emphasis on
scouting other NHL teams. Then when Sinden retires in a couple of
years. Kasper will become assistant GM to O'Connell.

In fairness to Steve Kasper I think the Bruins should get this
over with. From the way he was talking on Sunday I think he
already knows he is not coming back it's just a matter of making
it official.
Harry shouldn't be dragging him along like this. Cut him loose
and move on!

| I was watching Sports Final on Sunday night and Sinden said
something like "I know that a lot of you blamed last place on no
talent, and I know that a lot of you blamed Kasper... well let me tell
you, this is one good coach". Ok Harry so is this your way of accepting
the blame? He then went on in the next sentence and said what was
alluded to in .2, that he'll make a decision on Kasper in the next 7-10
days. I also heard, on Sports Final I think, that there was a
possibility of Kasper being moved to the front office and a new coach
being brought in to replace him. Pretty soon there are going to be more
people in the front office than there will be on the bench/ice. Sounds
like a formerly large computer company based here in Mass. that we all
know and love.

| Sinden is holding true to his style...
He's always waited about 2 weeks before he's made the
obvious off season changes....
Ya hate to see guys loose their job, but not so much so
in this case...
The real sore spot I still have regarding this type of
stuff is when Sutter was fired after the work he did
with the B's...

take some of the hate away, then I can continue to hate harry much

167.10 | That wouldn't work | DIVER1::MACHADO | Crazy on a ship of fools | Wed Apr 16 1997 10:15 | 16 |
| A player/coach works ok in the minors. At the pro level, you still
need a guy behind the bench to be a teacher/authority figure. If
Bourque is out on the ice killing a penalty, he can't be on the bench
pointing things out to his players. Of course, you could have
assistants doing that but at the pro level your head coach belongs on
the bench talking to the players and the guys upstairs via the headset
(or an assistant on the headset).
I'd almost rather see Kasper stay than see Bourque try to juggle
being team captain, on and off ice leader, go-to guy, AND head coach
all at once. It wouldn't work and the pressure of trying to make it
work would have a negative impact on his game.

And according to Lyndon Byers (on WAAF radio), the Turk said he won't
do color without Fred.
LB said he loved the Turk -- that in the Turk's calls, that LB never lost
a fight, no matter how many hits LB took :-)
