139.6 | Ol' Harry was probably down at the Forum waiting | DIVER1::MACHADO | Crazy on a ship of fools | Wed Mar 26 1997 09:03 | 16 |
| Saw an interview with Harry Sinden on channel 4 last night. He was
sayin' that he's certainly dissappointed with this years team. He
thought that they had a playoff quality team and he's surprised that
they aren't going to make it. He alluded to the fact that sometimes
when a team doesn't do as well as they can that it "can be the coaches
fault, but that you have to take extenuating circumstances into
consideration as well". What that means I have no idea. Is he saying
that Kasper's job is on the line, or is he saying that while people
think that Kasper's job could be on the line that maybe there are
circumstances that these people aren't taking into consideration? I
don't know. He was so vague about it. What got me was when he insisted
that he thought that this years team shoulda made the playoffs. He's
got to be the only one that seriously thought that.

| yea, he's the victim of flashback syndrome, he's lost in the '70s..
This team didn't have a chance of being a serious playoff
contender the day Neeley announced his retirement, and
Sinden and Oconnel did nothing to replace him.
with all the good players on the trade train this year,
it's a surprise that the only trade train that came
to Beantown, left with Oates, Ranford and Tochette.
The bruins always throw guys away that are starters
on another team..
he's insane.. simple enough to see that.

139.8 | IMHO | KAOFS::MCCANN | | Wed Mar 26 1997 09:59 | 18 |
| This Bruins' team has a very long way to go to be a contender. I
watched the game on Monday and from what I saw, this team looks more
like an AHL/IHL team than NHL caliber. Their best players are Bourque,
Stumpel, Donato, Heinze and possibly Don Sweeney. Bourque, Donato and
Heinze are out and even with them in the lineup, this bunch doesn't
throw a whole lot of fear into the opposition. Sure they may sometimes
work hard, but the defence is brutal and only Hasek would be good
enough to help them with the quality shots they give up. It would be
nice if they got Thornton but they better find some defencemen real
quick with Bourque's retirement imminent. They don't have much trade
bait so they either sign some free-agents (ya,right!) or build through
the draft. I think we're going to see another 3-4 years of poor play
unless somehow they start bringing in some free agents. I would say
that they'll be in the bottom 8 teams of the league again for some
time unless some drastic measures are taken.

| ...yep, I would agree with your statement, Messieur....look at Harry's
fishing/drinking pal, Sather....his Oilers went 4 straight years w/out
making da playoffs B-4 they started to turn it around this
year....looks like we're in for 3-4 years of the same (since PinHead
won't do it the quick way.....$$$$$$$)....

139.10 | Lose now and get Thornton; only way out!!! | KAOFS::WATTERS | | Wed Mar 26 1997 11:23 | 11 |
| Michel Bergeron (ex-Nords coach) says the B's remind him of the
last 2 years he coached the Nords; An AHL calibre team.
He also said that, like the ex-Nords, you can't even build a team
around the players they have now.
He said that 2 years after he left the Nords, only 3 player were still
around (Sakic, Leschychyn, and Finn). Now they only have 1 left.
In other words, rebuilding is a verrrry long process and the team you
see now will in no way ressemble the team you'll see in 2 years.

Earlier this year Dennis took offense to me calling the 96-97 edition of
the Bruins, "riff-raff".
I guess that you can now see what most outside of Boston could see.
The Bruins have been in decline for a few years. They just sqeaked
into the playoffs last year thanks mostly to Bill Ranford. This year
they upgraded their talent with the likes of Roy, Mallette, McCleary, all
Ottawa discards. The tough part is that they don't have much in young
talent anywhere in the organization. I watched two or three Providence
games this year and their best player was Mitch Lamoureux. Mitch has
got to be at least 35!
They have a lot of work ahead of them. You could be in for a few long
years.
Bernie.

| your right on Bernie,
During Monday's telecast in MTL, Michel Bergeron said that the
question Bruins mgmt must ask themselves is not why they didn't make
the playoffs this year, but whether or not they can make the playoffs
next year...When you take a deep look within the organization, things
don't look too bright at all...
Ray.
