2410.0. "does ESS support real-mode on VP575?" by SCASS1::UNLAND () Sun May 18 1997 21:51
Hello, I'm now the proud owner of a VP575, and it's proving to be
impressive and trying at the same time.
I have a couple of old DOS-type games that I would like to use on it,
for those long trips on the airplane on my own time, you understand ...
Anyway, I finally got them installed, learned how to make sure that the
DOS mode touchpad driver was installed, and *even* managed to fake the
game into thinking that there was a Sound Blaster that it could use. At
first, I thought the sound wasn't working, but after plugging some head
phones in, I could hear the *faintest* music, mostly drowned out by the
static generated when the hard drive was working ... :(
Trying to use the [fn] up-arrow and down-arrow keys didn't materially
affect the sound level. I've looked on all the media and in all the
release notes, but I don't see any reference to any ESS driver or util
software for real-mode.
Any pointers, suggestions, or plain ol' bad news ("it don't work, don't
waste your time...") would be most appreciated.
