2340.1 | Are prices a secret for new VP575? | NETCAD::ATKINSON | Dave Atkinson | Tue Mar 25 1997 10:48 | 15 |
|
I cannot find the price of the VP575? I checked VTX PRICE,
The Web Pricelist, then off to Sales Updates, then Internal
AltaVista (which had some files from yesterday indexed!) but
there are no prices listed? I did notice a typo in
//www.windows.digital.com/products/notebook/hinote_vp_500_configs.htp
as part number FR-PE4WI-AA is missing the 4.
What is the list price of FR-PE4WI-AA?
What is suspected delivery times?
Thanks,
Dave

Not sure what the right resources are to find pricing info. I would
probably call PCs Compleat and ask.
In browing the intranet, I found some info on the pcbu home page at
http://www-pcbu.ako.dec.com/ under business links, product information,
mobile systems, hinote vp, competitive analysis.
I don't know what configuration you're looking at (FR-PE4WI-AA means
nothing to me, nor does VP575 since I don't work with DIGITAL
portables...), but the high-end P166MMX with 2GB disk, CD and 12.1" tft
display is listed at 4499. The document name is OLE01853.DOC.

| If you are looking for the NT variant, I was told that they would not
be orderable until late April or early May. Also, the prices would not
be posted until then. The Win95 prices are up

Thanks for the pointers and info. IEG says orderable now for
April delivery. I had pulled the OLE01853.DOC but I do not see
the 4449 price mentioned. I pulled the 'babybox 2' PPT next to it,
but Powerpoint says it is not a PPT?
I'll place my order and get in line. Again, Thanks.

| Even if it would work, I'll bet that you can't order it as a separate
part. (Having been told that the VP5xx floppy drive was not separately
orderable.)

| .0 is still an open issue. Any answers or pointers to a definitive authority? I can't believe
(said that before) that the FDD or FDD/CD combo can't be ordered. Wouldn't somebody someday need a
replacement?
Thanks,
Jim

| Well, what I was told when I thought my VP535 floppy drive was defective was
"you'll have to return the whole laptop and we'll order a replacement (from
an outside vendor, $1000 extra) - we can't order just the floppy drive.

2340.10 | NOPE, not backwards compatible due to size | PCBUOA::FERRANTEV | | Thu Apr 10 1997 21:06 | 12 |
| Well the Definitive answer, regardless of whether or not you can order
them is NO. The Floppy/CD-ROM combo is 4MM taller than the Floppy or CD
in the HiNote VP510-545. This makes placing the Combo in the older
version impossible. You can not scrape out some of the plastic as the
metal KB support is waht will also get in the way. However, you could
use the Floppy or CD or second battery from your VP510-545 in your
VP550-575 as they are plug and electrically compatible.
Sorry folks, that is the way it is.. No amount of 'wanting' will
change it..
