| I'd take/send it back to the repair depot. They should have spotted and
fixed this.

2321.2 | Sync problem? | ANNECY::HOTCHKISS | | Thu Mar 06 1997 03:12 | 10 |
| Well - they couldn't spot it because it had no hard disc so they could
not boot windows.I forgot to mention that it seemed to happen only in
windows.I have changed the display settings to 24 bit colours and it got
worse,changed back to 256 and the problem seems to have dissappeared.It
looks like a sync problem.
However,nice to see that BIOS 1.42 is up to the old tricks - battery
flat after 10 seconds but capable of recharging fully in 10
minutes.Also the charge indicator says that on mains power the battery
is always at 1% of charge,regardless of the indicator..
sigh..

2321.3 | not fixed | ANNECY::HOTCHKISS | | Thu Mar 06 1997 10:10 | 4 |
| the plot thickens - the screen flickers even when I boot Linux.So it is
either a faulty contact or the BIOS or whatever mysterious software is
left in the CMOS for display drivers.
ANy clues?

2321.4 | Send it back, with all the trimmings | PCBUOA::GLANTZ | | Thu Mar 06 1997 14:38 | 9 |
| Why speculate? If it was working properly -- except for the hinge --
when you sent it in for repair; and it is not working properly now,
then send it back to be redone.
For all you readers out there, when sending units in for repair, please
return everything: hard disk drive, AC adapter, etc. The repair center
cannot do a thorough job otherwise. This note is a great example of
what can happen when a customer tries to second-guess the repairman,
"I know what's wrong, so all you need to look at is ..."

2321.5 | well done repair guys | ANNECY::HOTCHKISS | | Thu Mar 06 1997 14:59 | 7 |
| you're right - I guessed they didn't need the disc(which I did put
into a borrowed portable) so I kept it...
However,regardless of the result to date,I have been really impressed
by the turnround time and the support I got when I called the people
who did what they could with what I sent.So whatever else you may
hear,the Lyon and DRO Paris repair guys are good!
thanks and you may seen my brain again!
