2299.0. "Wanted: Information on Laptop w/CDROM built-in" by PASTA::CAMPOS () Fri Feb 07 1997 12:29

     I need information for a feasibility study: DO we currently make or
  within 2-3 months of releasing a DIGITAL Laptop with a built in CD-ROM
  drive? It must be built-in as the space is required to remove the CD-ROM
  drive and install test hardware.
     Reasons for selecting a DIGITAL brand, access is needed to schematics
  for modifications. Also, require at least a 133MHz Pentium for this project.
     The present add on CD-ROM Bay Option will not supply the required access
  to the motherboard.

      I do need some contacts if a laptop product like this exists or is
  underway. Please contact me.
                                  Thanks,
                                     pc-

   Yes, the HiNote VP500 series ships with an internal bay that supports
   options such as a LIon battery, a floppy, or a CD-ROM drive. Another
   bay supports PCMCIA cards. And -- if memory serves -- access via PCI
   is also available via port replicator.

   Various Intel Pentium and Pentium MMX MHz CPUs are available.

   Look around in this notes conference, as well as the PCBU web site,
   for details. (The VP500 series has been shipping for a while...)

    .0 seems to be saying that the options bay CD-ROM is not acceptable
    because access to the motherboard is not available.

   I wasn't sure if that was a reference to the external bay available
   on some of the HiNote series, or to the internal bay on the VP500.

   If it *is* a reference of the inaccessability to the motherboard from
   the internal CD-ROM bay on the VP500, consider cutting a hole in the
   casing, with the dimensions necessary for the cabling used to connect
   to the test equipment to the motherboard. (This obviously likely also
   voids the warrantee.)

2299.4Thanks ! HINOTE VP535PASTA::CAMPOSMon Feb 10 1997 12:0511
  Today I got my hands on a Hinote VP535. From first look it appears the CDROM
 bay may be the size and shape we need to hold our hardware! I will take the
 suggestion to cut into the case to access the motherboard. We did want the
 Hinote to be a traveling roadshow to exhibit the product so any exterior wiring
 like that on an attached bay would not look good. Thanks for the pointer, now I
 need some contacts to get schematics, mechanical drawings, unit assembly
 drawings, parts list, ect.

      Many Thanks!
