| The answer would be "it depends" - I can tell you that at least one switch
vendor I'm aware of, charges extra for the ability to do NBS-9 files (or
DIR/AP=F). There are other aspects to also consider. Most times when people
use FTAM with telephone switches, it's to pull billing data from the switch (or
actually from the near-real-time storage associated with the switch); billing
data is important data and the loss of it could result in the loss of many
thousands of <insert local currency>. The switch may protect against file
deletion. Again, I've seen this on a switch vendor - the files could only be
deleted at the switch (so to speak).
Without looking at a trace, it's difficult to tell whether you are running into
an interoperability problem, or a restriction with the switch; and actually,
even looking at the trace it may be difficult to tell. NBS-9 would be fairly
obvious if they negotiate away the abstract syntax needed for NBS-9. You may
need to check with the switch vendor to see what is and is not supported.
Though we'd be happy to take a quick look at a trace.
COPY/DELETE is probably not going to help you - since the underlying FTAM
operations are going to be the same as those used in DELETE.
