    We may be making a move from MD to the Dallas area (Yayyyyyyyyy!).  Any
    updates on this topic?

    We've already visited (sort of a preview before making a commitment to
    move).  If this happens, I'll be working near Abrams/Forrest and the
    LBJ in North Dallas.  We looked (not really house-hunting, just to get
    impressions) in Plano, Allen, and McKinney.  We liked Allen and
    McKinney better.  We'd also like to look at Richardson, Lewisville, and
    Carrolton.  We'd like an area that has a community "feel" and
    activities.  We have an 8 year old who'd be entering 3rd grade in the
    fall (and who loves soccer).  We'd like not to spend too much on a
    house (<=150 for 3-4 bed, 2 bath, 2 car+room for a camper).

    What is the cost/availability for day/after-school care in any of these
    areas?  What are schools like?  Any areas to avoid?  We know about the
    property and sales taxes.  What about auto/home insurance?

    It's all preliminary at this point, but I'm sure we'll have more
    specific questions is this comes to be.

    Sorry I can't be of much help, I live in Arlington, and now don't even
    work for DEC anymore, plus the activity level around this conference is
    too low, to be of much value (read non-existent).
    
    All the places you mentioned are adequate as far as I know.  The area
    is growing and traffic conjestion is a major problem, as it is the
    entire metroplex, however the north Dallas (635 rim & north) is worse.
