211.0. "DOOM 95 Question" by SPSEG::BRAMSON () Thu May 08 1997 15:37

I did not see any mention of this, so I will ask this question anyway.
I recently downloaded DOOM 95 which runs under Windows 95 in resolutons
up to 640 x 480. This is Shareware from Id software. During the
installation, the installer says something like "older video drivers
detected, do you want to update with newer drivers?" or something like
this. I am real leary about letting an installation program stomp my
    display drivers. The reason is:

I have the latest drivers from the Matrix home page.
I am running SciTech Display Doctor 5.3 (5.3a is the newest).

I do not know what would happen if I let the installation program write
over my drivers, but I can tell you that the program did not run too
    well with the existing drivers.

This program uses DirectX and I have DirectX 2.0 installed (from the
    Matrox Millenium installation CD).

Has anyone had any experience with this variant of the game?
ANd.....if so, did the installation routine replace any video drivers
    for you?

    Thanks and regards,

    Irwin

It will try to install Direct X 3.0 which is the latest, try
installing Direct X v3.0, and see if that message goes away.
