| Leagues? How do these work then? Does one have to dial in?
Laurie.

| You dial in, get an opponent, play then post the results. I don't know
if there are any BBS systems in the UK supporting the four-player
links.
Cheers,
Jamie.

| Well the principle would hold. You just need to find a Belgish BBS ;-)
...and if there's a system running that DWANGO thing you can play over
the internet I think...

| It's sort of like Belgian but not necessarily exactly Belgian.

| I just signed on to a BBS last night called The Forest. It's a board
for playing multiplayer DOOM/DOOM2/HERETIC. Players use SIRDOOM
(downloadable from the board) which is a util that contains a comms
facility sufficient to connect to the board, go to the multi-player
area, sign on to a game where you can chat to other players waiting for
a game then when you're all ready you get SIRDOOM to launch you in to
the game and there you are... 4 of you playing DOOM at once over the
telephone line! It was AWESOME! And if you've all got decent modems
it's *really* smooth!
I recommend trying this out...

| Also... the UK Deathmatch Championships are to be held on the 14th/15th
Oct around the country at HMV stores. Winner goes to the US for the
World finals. See the new PC ZONE for details.
After playing on the BBS though, I won't bother. There are players out
there that are simply awesome. I can't believe how fast they move. I
play keyboard, with the SHIFT key down almost all the time and still
the mouse players make me look sluggish. Many a time I see them enter
the room, fire at them, they dodge it and the next thing I know they're
behind me, pumping a bullet into the back of my head.
I've tried playing with the mouse but it's *so* hard to get used to. It
seems to be so accurate though...
Jamie.

| Well I won my third match in the UK Deathmatch League last night quite
impressively... and looks like I'm going to the top of my division!
I read some of the results from the Premier league and couldn't believe
that Mr Blobby (probably the best player in the UK, though he couldn't
make the heats of the UK Championships) actually beat someone, in 20
minutes, 150 frags to 10. How can a game be so frantic!
In my match, the first game I won 6-3 and the second 19-16. Admittedly
I play the hiding game 'cos I play with the keyboard, but even so...

| Bloody hell! That's 7.5 frags a minute! I wonder how that can be
possible.

Simple, get the rocket launcher and sit where the poor guy
starts the level out at.
Some WADs that I have played your opponent always starts in the
same general location and you either have to go down a narrow
corridor or open a specific door to get into the level.
Also, it looks as though this person just plays to win...
No such thing as playing nice. I don't know about the rest
of you guys but in a one on one Deathmatch if I come across
my opponent who just warped in I usually let'em go, I might
give'em a few quick shots with the pistol or chaingun just
to get'em movin', but the real test comes after they get some
stuff and level out the playing field.
Yes, you canplay nice in a Deathmatch game, besides it's no
challenge to take your buddy out who's runnin' around
with a 15 clip of ammo for the pistol whilst you have
all the neat toys...
Grins,
Mike.

Its just *GREAT* to take on your opponent with a 15 clip of ammo when
you've got all the neat toys!!!
Why be nice?
I like upping that FRAG number...

I tried playing with the mouse today (before we started our lunchtime
FRAGFEAST!) and it didn't work properly! I couldn't get any of the
three buttons to make it move forwards, and after a few minuted it went
*wild* (twitching and firing continously).
What do I have to configure to get the (3button) mouse to work please?

| US Robotics Courier (V.34, 28800). I run it at 14400 for Doom. If the
opponent has a decent machine (DX266 upward) then it's enough for a
decent game...
