Thy Flesh Consumed is the fourth episode for the original DOOM.
I recently picked up the new CD, I never ordered the original
DOOM, that contains v1.9 of DOOM Episodes 1 to 3 plus 4,
THY FLESH CONSUMED...
I've run through the levels like a good QLB... Some real nice
death match levels in episode 4. They've also changed E1L1
slightly. I'm up to E3L4 and haven't seen any other changes.

| E4 is a new episode created by id, whether it is any good I don't know,
but it seems that they are doing their best to finance their Quake
project.
Also what's this I hear about a Doom 3 coming out before Quake?

No, I don't think so considering the price was about $40.00...
Wasn't that the original price from Id for just the three
episode patch ridden DOOM?
I suppose this is why I waited so long to buy the original...
I can't easily pick up patches to games so I was waiting
for Id to finish their fixes.
As for DOOM 3, I haven't heard anything... But, if they put
extras in like they did in Heretic, but not make it a
Heretic clone I'd probably get it...

| Ok, the FREE update for Doom 1 users to Thy Flesh Consumed is on :
bahtat::19_udpat.exe
I think you have to be on Doom 1.9 for this to work.

I couldn't quite see how "19_UDPAT.EXE" was descriptive so I changed it
to TFCUPD.EXE ("Thy Flesh Consumed UPDate"). It's in
BANDI::DOOMDISK:[MISC]TFCUPD.EXE 2085 blocks
Listing has been updated too.

The updates from 1.666 --> 1.9 are on the Doom archives. Note you must
have registered version.

Right....
Copied ver 1.9 from BANDI, copied TFC from BANDI. Got home last night
and patched up to 1.9 - no problem. copied TFCUPD.EXE to DOOM directory
and typed TFCUPD - prompt is to rename to 19_UDPAT.EXE. Did this. Typed
19_UDPAT and got the same prompt - rename to 19_UPDAT.EXE.
What am I missing?
Do I need to unzip the EXE file. Tried that and it did nothing - gave
a PKZIPFIX error.

Copied 19_udpat.exe from BAHTAT::
Took it home copied it to DOOM directory and typed 19_udpat
Again, prompt is to rename to 19_udpat.exe!!!
Any more help?

Just a straight forward copy command from BAHTAT to my hard drive.
Copy to A:, take home then copy to C:\doom.

| I tried 19_udpat.exe and I have the doom 1 registered version but still
it doesn't work. When I use pshell.exe they're looking for some kind
of file to update. But then they are talking about an old file that
doesn't excist [no file found to patch, error: ept00015 or something].
I have Doom 1.2 registered version but it didn't work then I used patch
v1.666 and tried with 19_udpat.exe but still it searched for a file
that doesn't excist. Help!!

You have to be Doom 1 v1.9.
ALso I tried it on my Doom dir, where the WAD etc had been patched and
it failed, so I had to go back to a clean new install.

Copied from BAHTAT to my VMS account. Then used NFT (Network file
transfer) to pull it onto the PC.

| I did a clean install with Doom 1 [ver 1.2] and then I used the
19_udpat-patch but still it doesn't work. It keeps telling me "couldn't
find old file [error: ept0015]."

| You can't go from DOOM 1.2 to ULITMATE DOOM 1.9!!! You must do the upgrade in
two steps:
DOOM 1.2 -> DOOM 1.9
then
DOOM 1.9 -> ULTIMATE DOOM 1.9
That's why the patch program is saying it can't find the file. It's looking
for the 1.9 version of the DOOM exe and wad files.

I have toyed with this one, and will say a couple things on what I have
observed with it.
1) Harder than earlier episodes!
2) Use GOD Mode more often when in critical situations (a lot of the
time now!!)
3) Graphics can get a bit jerky when moving quickly in scenes with lots
of enemies (486/33 w/8 megs ram, 1MB on VLB (will check w/2meg on VLB
soon as I just put it in last night))
4) Seem to be able to cruise through this rather quickly in GOD mode,
and haven't found a lot of secrets even when using Map Mode. Are there
a lot of secrets a-la E1-3?
5) Hmmm, am waiting on other games to come out, like Blood, Tyrian,
Duke Nukem 3D, and others slated for Q2/3 1995 from Apogee/Epic.

I upgraded from 1.666 registered to the 1.9 Ultimate Doom. I don't
know if it's just my imagination, but it seems to be a bit faster
than 1.666. In Thy Flesh Consumed, all of the enemies seem to move
and shoot faster. This is a tough episode and there's some really
cool levels in it. The levels are some of the best I've seen yet.
The secrets are pretty tough to find and in the early levels you
really need to save up your ammo.

Yup, there are 2!
First the 1.666 to 1.9 upgrade, then the 1.9 to TFC upgrade. At least
this worked for me! They should be available on the public area...

Can someone list the actual file names for the upgrades.I printed the
entire file listing and am not sure exactly which files are the correct
ones.I tried the (d2v17p.zip) and (d2_19pat.zip)both files were bad.
step by step would be appreciated.
