174.0. "No sound with Sound System Card" by HOLST::MARK () Mon Apr 24 1995 17:49

I'm having trouble getting the Sound effects to work on DOOM II.

My system has a Windows Sound System Sound Card, which is set up
to be Soundblaster compatible under MS-DOS.

I can get the DOOM music to play, but can't get any sound effects.
I've checked the settings in CONFIG.SYS, and configured the card
in DOOM setup to tie in with these, ie, correct IRQ, DMA etc.
I had the same problem with DOOM 1, where on startup, the system
reported, "Sound Blaster not responding at 240", but this is the
address the card is set up for. I have no other cards in the
system, so don't see how there can be a clash.

    	Any suggestions????

    	Cheers 'n' all that,

    	Mark.

Hmm, same problem here but with an original Sound Blaster. The Doom1
Shareware version worked fine but the registered DoomII dosn't - Music
but no FX. Yanked everything else that I could out of the box to make
sure no DMA conflicts, etc.

174.4No FX either...ASDG::DUMONTWed Mar 06 1996 10:478
I just installed a SoundBlaster and get no FX either. Music is fine,
but thats it. Same on both Doom and DoomII.

From the looks of this note nobody has any suggestions.

    Oh well.....

Well the obvious is that you ran SETUP and made sure that the FX were
enabled, and that the interupts etc .. were set correctly. You've
made sure that the volume setting is cranked up for the FX. Otherwise,
try reinstalling, or make sure you've got the latest patches installed.
I forget the current version revs, something like 1.9 ... someone else
in here can probably tell you.

I have an older SB Pro, and it works fine with Doom I and Doom II.

     Have fun,
      Larry

174.6had similar problem, dumped card!SUBSYS::MSOUCYMon Mar 11 1996 07:2415

    re: last couple

I had a similar problem with an OEM version of the SB16 card. I went
through 3 cards all with the same results. I went back to my SBPro (and
I CAN hear the difference between these two!) and have never had a
problem. The problem with those SB16's was partially due to having an
external SCSI box connected to my Adaptec 1542C controller, when I
brought it to the shop without the box the 3rd card worked, took it
home, hooked it up, didn't work. I said the hell with it and went back
to the SBPro. He also told me (my buddies store) he had the same
problem I had on one Pentium 100Mhz he put together with one of those
    OEM cards....strange eh?
