| Any user's creations will be placed in :-
FLYTE::USER1:[ARCHIVE.DOOM.CONF_USERS]
Basically it will contain and WADs made by us lot (!!).
Some Guidelines:
===============
o Please .ZIP any WADs you create using the latest version of PKZIP.
o Please write a small .TXT file (unZIPped) to be associated with your
.ZIPped wad. Try to keep it along the lines of the format mentioned
in the various Doom FAQ's (available on FLYTE).
ie. who you are, what the wad is, does it support deathmatch,
what you've changed, etc etc....
o If you're based here at DecPark, Reading, you can bring it in on a
floppy but please try your utmost to avoid any virus's by putting the
.WAD on a freshly formatted disc.
o Post and discs via internal mail to Daniel Howell at REO2 F/M3, UK.
o Or (far easier) put it up on your local node in a public access area,
so I can just grab it over DECnet....!
I hope we all enjoy this... use this topic for discussion/
announcements/ current ideas or developments /etc.....
See you around... and remember, I'm behind you >:^D

Looks like you'll have to rename yours Dan ;-)
You can't be the only person who has modelled their house.

| Can anyone do this HOUSE.WAD on HMP without cheating then?! It takes a
bit of a going at, I can tell you.
What, only a pistol? Or am I missing something ;-)

the HOUSE.WAD yet ?
What did you think ?

| Yes I have.
Hard, but I like it. Well done!
The T.V. is very good, and so is the puzzle in the one room where you
step through the 'gates' to open doors to the key.... a nice, clever
puzzle that.
I need something else other than a pistol in it, though... I haven't
played it much.... I'll give it a harder go some time this
weekend!
Cheers,
Dan

| Aaahh! I found the shotgun and it was a lot easier! Managed to clear
the level but couldn't get up the stairs.... I managed to lower the
outer shield, but there's still the inner shield stopping you getting
up the stairs....
Some clue as to where the trigger is, please?!

135.10 | spoiler requested.... | VESSA::MICHAELSONJ | Dedicated BUGger | Mon Oct 31 1994 08:18 | 23 |
| hi there,
There are actually 3 "shields" protecting the stairs, here is the spoiler for
where the switches for them are :-)
(btw, there is a chain-gun in a hidden room)
there is a switch in the "kitchen" through the yellow key door on the side of
the bench seat.
there is a switch outside (through the fireplace) on the outer wall of the
house, before you get to the maze.
there is a switch in the "cellar" (from the kitchen), on the wall (pictured
texture - not a normal looking switch) next to the lift that takes you down
to a small room where there is a pair of goggles !
I hope you have plenty of health/ammo (and of course the red key!) when you
get upstairs !!!!!!!
Jonathan.

| Aah it's that last switch which I never found.... not surprisingly,
either, if it doesn't look like a switch !?!
Great I can finish it now.... :-)
|
135.12 | | VESSA::MICHAELSONJ | Dedicated BUGger | Mon Oct 31 1994 08:32 | 15 |
| you have been playing doom for how long?, and you complain that the switch does
not look like a switch ! :-)
At least it looks out of the ordinary, that's usually good enough for the normal
levels. But having completed a level recently on Doom ][ where I was totally
flumaxed (sp?), and so did the trick of going round the walls of the room hitting
the space bar on every surface until lo-and-behold, there is a resounding clunk
and a platform lowers. I stepped back from the wall, and it was *completely*
invisible!
(not that I am purely reacting to your comment or anything <G>)
(Good luck)
Jonathan.

| re.12
Guess not long enough, ey :-) ?!
I just think it's slightly unfair to put something in (switch,
trigger, secret passage, etc) without some sort of hint, even if it's
just a candle or something. Or even a more obscure hint such as ...
umm.. something really obscure.... ?!?!

spoilers !

135.19 | WAD questions DOOM vs DOOM2 | DPDMAI::GRESS | | Mon Nov 21 1994 14:47 | 17 |
| ALLRIGHT, ALLRIGHT! I'll be DOOMED! After hearing nothing but DOOM here
and Doom there DOOM 2 in PCMAG, COMPUTER GAMES mags etc... I will give
in! I played the shareware version of DOOM a long time ago and after
playing DOOM2 in my network class (well we had to test out our Novell
install!) I am ready to buy. But a few questions first. I know these
have already been asked but I cant find them and dont really have time
to get caught up searching and reading all the notes here.
1.) If I buy the CD version, can I play it from the CD?
2.) Can I download all these fancy .WAD's and play them from the
DOOM2 engine?
3.) If 'No' to above, does the DOOM on DOOM2's cd allow me to? Is the
DOOM on DOOM2's CD the shareware version.
Thanks for you help and sorry if repeat questions.

> 1.) If I buy the CD version, can I play it from the CD?
Yes. But YMMV depending on your CD's performance capability.
I have a single speed CD and chose to install the whole thing
(from CD) onto a hard drive.
> 2.) Can I download all these fancy .WAD's and play them from the
> DOOM2 engine?
I'm not positive, but I believe WADs are only usable by one or the
other.
> 3.) If 'No' to above, does the DOOM on DOOM2's cd allow me to? Is the
> DOOM on DOOM2's CD the shareware version.
Haven't tried, but the shareware version of DOOM is included and
you can install both versions... so you should be covered.

| 2&3 )
Doom 1 WADs only work properly with Doom 1. There are some Doom 2 WADs
slowly coming out now, which will work with Doom 2, but there aren't
many. Having said that, there is supposedly a little utility which will
convert Doom 1 WADs to work with Doom 2. As soon as I can get my hands
on it I'll pop it on the 'net.
If there's the shareware version ONLY on the CD, then you'll be limited
to playing levels only for the first episode. Most respectable WAD
makers make their levels for episodes 2 and 3 (so that people who
haven't paid for the game don't get free add-ons all the time). However
there's nothing stopping you using a WAD editor, changing the episode
title of a WAD to the first episode and playing it on the shareware
version....
So I shouldn't worry. Go get it!

| Thanks for the feed-back Dan,
Sorry for taking so long to reply, been busy =8'(
Someone else reported difficulty with the first level. Can't understand
why I can run it and others can't, apart from having 32mb RAM there is
nothing special about my DX266.
I'll have to remove some transparent walls in the main arena and try
again.
Cheers,
Nick.
