This will contain the following files:
wing10.zip - MS WinGraphics - install first
windm1.zip - GUESS!
windm2.zip -
windoom.faw

| Well, I managed a copy anyways... and it's not worth it.
It's still beta demo quality and doesn't even perform that well on my
Pentium. I could not find anyway to access the options screen or see
my status display. No music. Sound often truncated or didn't sync
well with the action. All-in-all, I was disappointed.
Dave.

After FTPing the proper wing.dll, it played fine on my p90/ATImach64 in the
320x200 video mode (SMALL!) but the frame rate drops to ~12 in 640x480 mode.

ditto.

music worked on my system (SB16asp/scsi2). Sounded like the v1.666 music.
> Sound often truncated or didn't sync well with the action.
I got the truncated sound thing a couple times, but didn't have any sync
problems.
> All-in-all, I was disappointed.
IMO, it's not too bad for a beta... ...on par with what you get from
typical internet distributed playable demos.

| It runs fine on NT 3.5 I have a 486/66 16mb. The speed was just
fine of course I did not need to install the wing stuff and the program
is in its infant stage ie. no status screen or menu to change from one
level to the other and control sound. It also craps all over my screen
colors when the apps closes.

Well it doesn't seem that MS is doing a whole lot to prevent its
circulation... ...based on the fact that this WinDoom beta-whatever is
available via FTP in many places. And I believe they haven't gone after the
guy who put the .zip file together with his name and e-mail address plastered
all over the readme. If the policy of Digital is to not distribute it without
permission, then fine by me. If someone wants it, they can find it elsewhere
without difficulty.
IMO, WinDoom is a nice thing to try once and then delete... ...which is
probably why nobody really cares, since anyone who wants to play that
shareware doom will get better performance and more features in DOS anyway!

| From the MSN:
Doom II For Windows
As id has already reported, Doom II is being ported to Windows.
Originally, the port was using the Win32 DIB Section APIs, and was
capable of getting respectable speed on decent hardware.
Microsoft has recently announced the Games SDK, which includes API
that have been specifically tuned too address the needs of action
packed games development.
After carefully considering the options, and the alternatives, it has
been decided that a game like DOOM really deserves to be implemented
via the Games SDK API. This work is currently in progress, and is
showing great promise.
id has a policy of "no beta's", and to date, no betas of "Doom II For
Windows" have been released. Any copies you might have heard of, or
seen, or even have are bootlegged 'Technology Demos', and should be
deleted immediately.
Once the current development of "Doom II For Windows" based on the
Games SDK has been completed. It will be made available through the
normal channels.
