No dice-- mine just moved out, leaving me exclusive use of the
486 & all the doom/doom wads I want to play. I willa void
competition at almost any cost.

123.3 | never see the press mention open nature of doom | LIVELY::MAURER | | Mon Sep 19 1994 11:50 | 19 |
| I caught that article in Computer Life (talk
about a mag that is not sure what it wants to be
when it grows up). I find that all articles I
read about Doom in the mainstream press miss
the one watershed feature that will mark a
major turning point in the PC gaming industry.
I have never seen anyone mention the open
nature of the Doom architecture and how
everyone has embraced writing numerous WADs for
it, thus extending the games life. Sure the
"match" mode is cool and the 3D, real time
interface is well done, but both have been
around in other combat games for a while. The
concept of writing a game "engine", setting the
hook with enough levels to get you addicted and
then letting the world crank out endless
variations is sure to be imitated throughout
the industry. Never seen it mentioned in the
press though.

That's because "the press" is clueless.
Which just leaves more FTP bandwidth for us computer geeks!

I saw a article that said that DOOM the movie was in the pipe line,
and that Arnold Swarzenegger was favourite for the role.
Who else!?
