Anybody have any suggestions on how to get to that red key? I don't
see how I'm supposed to get up there!

| I need help on the RED KEY also. It's in the first room ahead of you as
you start the level, with packing crates in. I've found the hidden
transporter in the room and also a crate that lowers to allow me to get
a bit higher towards the Red Key, but not high enough :-(
Help please.
Lawrence.

There's another teleporter somewhere (I forget) that will get you to
the RED card on top of the crate. It's not in the same building.

I think you step on the teleporter in the room with the red key.
Then step on the teleporter that you arrive on. ie step forward turn
around and then go forward to the teleporter.

| This level emphasises one of the gripes I have with Doom 2.... those
chaingun dudes high up in the north east corner? They can shoot you
with pin-point accuracy and yet the moment you try to send a rocket
their way from a safe distance, the 'autolock' feature doesn't pick
them up and you end up shooting harmless bricks.
This level is also a good reason to upgrade my 4Mb RAM..... :-)
Still, I will do it. Is the exit to the secret level fairly apparent on
this level, or is it decidedly devious?
I've done this level before (last time I finished Doom I used a lower
skill setting) but now it's hard....... :-S. I finished it, but I never
found the secret exit to level 31.... any hints/mild spoilers/outright
spoilers ???
Cheers,
Dan

Well, this is from (foggy) memory, but I do remember the general location of
the exit. What I don't remember is what you have to trip before it becomes
accessible.
You haven't lived till you've played level 31. Don't play too late at night
or your laughter may awaken neighbors.
There is a room to the north west which contains a nukage river. The river
exits through the west wall. The exit is along this river.
Somewhere along the west left-hand wall.

| This is a busy level .... I've found more ways to die on this than any
other I've played so far.
Is there any way to protect yourself from lava, radiation suits don't
seem to help.

Just try to stay out of the lava, the suits always worked for me.
I've been on this level for more than a week. It is most definitely
a busy level.

I've found the map, and know where the blue key is, but cannot open the

Did you go up the stairs and pressed the two switched on each opposite top
corridors ? Normally, on the way back, you should be able to open the wall.

| I'm stuck on this level.
I Get to the room where the red key is, but the previous notes say use
the teleport in that room, however, there is a wall around the
teleport.
The only other thing I can do is run into the lava, into the teleport
there, but theres a BFG there which releases a Baron, and tons of
monsters and I don't have enough ammo to deal with them all!!
Cheers,
Greg

| You will have to deal with the Baron to get the yellow key, that gets you to the
blue key and the rest... What were your vital statistics (:-)) when you started
this level ?

I started level 15 afresh, cos moving from 1.666 to 1.7 meant my save
games didn't work!
So I goota kill the Baron to make the red key accesible?

I don't know if this will work with trying to read v1.666/v1.7 save games,
but:
If you have Doom II v1.7, you can invoke it as v1.666 by typing 'doom' at
the DOS command line. To invoke it as v1.7, type 'doom2' at the command
line.
This is how my v1.7 works -- which is rather odd -- but your mileage may vary.

I'm also stuck getting the red key.
Does anyone know where the transporter to get to the top of the crates
to get the key is? I thought I'd been in all buildings and so far no
luck.

Its not a transporter. You can get up the crates if you're creative.

Guess I'm not creative enough. I've spent more time trying to get the
red key by climbing and running up crates than a grown man should admit
to. I've found the two adjacent crates that go up and down using
the spacebar, but still can't get to the red key.
Could someone please tell me how to get the red key?
Also, how do I get into the transporter in the same room as the red key?
(Can't run into it from floor level or small box level). I suppose if I
can get to the red key, the high vantage point might allow a run into
the transporter.
Thanks,
-jp

| Hmmm, this one does sound familiar now... I also recall being quite frustrated
with this room.
Then one day I stumbled into it somehow... I think it may have had something
to do the brown wall between the two torches. Just as you enther room, this
wall is on the right? Was it shooting the wall? Jeez, I can't recall right
now.... If I remember tonight I'll poke around.

| Yes! Pressing the spacebar near the area you described lowered the wall
in front of the transporter. It was easy from there. Thanks!
(Funny, I thought I had pressed the spacebar just about everywhere in
that room before. Guess I missed this small target area.)
