96.1 | platforms rise too fast, system compensation again? | DAVE::MITTON | Token rings happen | Tue Oct 11 1994 11:17 | 8 |
| Is it my pentium again?
I cannot run fast enough to get on the rising platform in the toxic
pool where the backpack was. (one room clockwise from the yellow card
room) The yellow card room was also very very hard to do. I had to
practice running and moving over a dozen times to get it.

You are using the shift key for running, right?

96.5 | keep looking | DAVE::MITTON | Token rings happen | Mon Oct 24 1994 13:48 | 19 |
| After you get the blue key, it unlocks a closet with a switch.
Push the switch and a wall on the side of the room behind you raises.
(where the steps-to-nowhere raised earlier) Turn around quickly and
run into that room, as the wall will close.
In there there is a triangular kiosk with three switches on it.
Each opens one of the three doors on the opposite side of the kiosk.
The yellow key room is on the left. You will find yourself
overlooking a slime pit with three platforms on the other side.
Imps mulling about on each.
mild spoiler follows:
You have to jump in, there is a Radiation suit in the right corner,
hit the lowest platform, hit the switch inside, then turn and run like
the dickens for the center platform. You should be able to figure it
out from there.
Dave.

96.7 | ID commands work in PAUSE | DAVE::MITTON | Token rings happen | Wed Oct 26 1994 18:23 | 12 |
| RE: .1 cannot run fast enough!
My final solution is to punt. The tip of the night is noticing that
you can type idclip while in PAUSE mode. So my solution now is...
- run... don't make it. Hit PAUSE
- type IDCLIP,
- unPAUSE, move onto platform, PAUSE
- type IDCLIP,
- unPAUSE and continue

Some of the platform rooms around the acid pit have TWO switches. One lowers
the next platform, the other doesn't. Make sure you hit the right one. It
*IS* possible to run and make it. Run backwards while turning away from the
switch and toward the next platform to save a second or two.

You want to press switch 2 and then switch 1 if I remember rightly.

96.11 | Wrong room, wrong problem | DAVE::MITTON | Token rings happen | Thu Oct 27 1994 16:47 | 7 |
| RE: .9, .10
Yea, I know that. My problem is with the next room clockwise, with the
backpack and the computer map. I _cannot_ RUN fast enough to make
that platform and I've practiced dozens of times.

top level once in about 100 tries.
How do you get back out to the kiosk once you get to the top level?

Look at the diagram in .10 You have to throw switch 2 to open the
door. (aahhh darn...)

This is the one "feature" I hated in the pit. I got real tired of
throwing the switch and running my little heart out only to miss the
platform at the last nanosecond. It would not have been so bad if this
had been a one time deal but 3 times!! In the end I just skipped all the
crud and restored my save before I jumped down into that area.

96.15 | It can be done (just). | LARVAE::GILBERTL | | Wed Nov 02 1994 05:36 | 8 |
| Well, it is possible. I did it after about 10 attempts. I switched off
and came back to it refreshed and it was then I managed it. I've got an
idea that brushing against walls as you run and turn the corner to get
to the platform may slow you down. Certainly when I did it, it was a
clean run and to the closest part of the platform.

| It took you this long to realise brushing against walls slows you
down?! Sheeesh, how did you ever do Doom 1 ?!
No, but seriously, I find it helps (when you want to run someplace
quickly) to run in MAP mode with the zoom turned up a bit. You can
position yourself much better in this mode.
Some people call it cheating, I call it using a simple 2D
representation of the area to achieve my ultimate aims of fragging more
evil types ..... :-)

Check out the FAQ note (dir/title=faq)... there's a "Blue Key FAQ" in there!
